Since 2004 we have proudly hosted our annual ASMS International Science Fair (ISF). This exciting event, consistently welcoming guests from around the world, Australia and South Australia, is a week of exploration, investigation and collaboration.
Both our visiting and ASMS students experience Challenge Based Learning, collaboratively investigating real world issues, proposing solutions and solving challenges.
Working alongside peers from different nations, students extend their thinking, analyse problems in critical and creative ways and determine actions that make a difference, all while forming friendships and developing intercultural understandings.
Visiting schools from overseas, interstate and from regional South Australia experience not only the ISF but also cultural events and experiences around the city of Adelaide.
2026: Collaborating Across Borders
In 2026 the Australian Science and Mathematics School will not be holding their annual International Science Fair in September. Instead, we will be hosting the International Student Science Fair in December 2026. Welcoming 35 schools from across the globe to our school, students are provided the opportunity to explore Challenge Based Learning while building a strong sense of community with likeminded peers.

2025: Challenging Your Perspective
In 2025, the ASMS welcomed 10 schools from around the world, Australia and regional South Australia to participate in our annual International Science Fair (ISF). This year’s theme, Challenging Your Perspective saw students use Challenge Based Learning (CBL) to think differently and take new approaches to research an area of science they are passionate about.
Our CBL’s – Space, Atmospheric Science, Resources, Medical & Health, Agriculture, AI & Cyber, Future Materials, Indigenous Australian Perspectives and Choose Your Own allowed ASMS students to build relationships with their peers and visiting students, who share the same area of interest.
Our visiting schools from Canada, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Victoria, Thailand and Naracoorte and Roxby Downs, as well as our students participated in excursions to help further their research, visiting places like the Jam Factory, Lot 14 and MOD in the Adelaide CBD, Kanmantoo Copper Mine, Ngaut Ngaut Conservation Park and Costa Mushroom Plant in Monarto.
Seeing students expand their own ways of thinking, working with students from different schooling and cultural backgrounds to work together to produce amazing work showcased in the ISF Expo at the end of the week was a highlight for ASMS staff and visiting teachers to experience.









2024: Engineering A Future
In 2024, the ASMS held its 20th Celebration International Science Fair. For this year’s event we welcomed 7 international schools from 6 countries, 1 interstate school and 2 regional South Australian Schools with students investigating the theme: Engineering A Future.
It was an honour for the school to welcome back Jim Davies and Graeme Oliver our first Principal and Deputy Principal who initiated our ISF 20 years ago to the Opening Ceremony, as well as our former International Coordinator Julie Cassidy who organised a massive 18 of our 20 International Science Fair events. The ASMS values the driving forces of our staff past and present, helping to shape the minds and building relationships between budding scientists for such a long time.
Throughout the week visitors and ASMS students participated in excursions, incursions and research to support their chosen Challenge Based Learning inquiry, finishing the week with the ISF Expo to present their achievements from the week.
A wonderful week was had by visiting students and teachers as well as our ASMS students and teachers as they explored the ways in which they can Engineer their Future and make impacts within different facets of the science world.









2023: Space to Innovate
In 2023 we welcomed 55 visitors from 11 different schools from all over Australia, South Australia and the world to experience the 19th annual International Science Fair alongside ASMS Year 10 and 11 students.
Exploring Challenge Based Learning using leading edge technologies students investigated a crime scene CSI style, applied the mechanics of Biomedical Engineering, investigated as Archaeologists and Palaeontologists, researched the effects of Fire and Flood, studied amongst the stars, applied their artistic flair to understand Australian Indigenous Art and explored life under the microscope.
Students from Canada, Thailand, China, Japan, Korea, Queensland, Victoria, Burra and Roxby Downs wowed us with their insightful presentations on topics including bioplastic pots, the effectiveness of sunscreen application types, protecting marine ecosystems with shaped artificial reefs and defying Gamma Radiation through the powers of commercial building materials.
Working together has allowed us to expand our learning and think differently to achieve our CBL outcomes as a multinational team.









2022: What can we learn from the past to change our future?
For the 18th International Science Fair, we welcomed students and educators from around the world to join our Year 10 and 11 students and our staff for an amazing week of Challenge Based Learning from 5-9 September.
The ASMS hosted 34 students with 6 teachers participating online from Fort Richmond College Canada, GSC Hiroshima University Japan, and Mahidol Wittayanusorn School Thailand and 18 students with 2 teachers visiting from St Odulphuslyceum The Netherlands and Ritsumeikan Senior High School Japan.
The ASMS also welcomed 17 students with 7 teachers visiting the school from regional South Australia including Roxby Downs Area School, Burra Community School and Whyalla Secondary College and 5 students with 2 teachers visiting interstate from Queensland Academy for Science, Maths and Technology.
It was so inspiring to see how each group has developed their curiosity, collaborated on ideas, and nurtured their friendships to come up with creative solutions to each challenge.
