Australian of the Year Luncheon

On Wednesday 19 October, a group of our Australian Science & Mathematics School students attended the Australian of the Year Luncheon at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

This event featured Dylan Alcott as the keynote speaker, as well as a panel discussion with the SA Australian of the Year recipients: Monique Bareham, Dr Trudy Lin, Mark Le Messurier and Professor Helen Marshall.

This was a wonderful opportunity for our students to hear from a group of inspirational individuals who are making a difference in their communities all around Australia.

My experience at the Australian of the Year luncheon was both enjoyable and mind-opening. Aside from the sophisticated presentation of the food and entertainment, I found that the way groups with disabilities were chosen to present in emceeing and performing at the luncheon was an eye-opening experience of not being told but being shown the importance of representation of minority groups, particularly those with disabilities.
