Diwali

Students celebrated Diwali by learning the importance of this cultural event, including the symbolism of light. They made origami candles and lanterns to celebrate this wonderful cultural event.

 SA SRC

The SA SRC is aims to include a diverse range of student voices across the state. Students who take on this leadership role are empowered to have a voice in policy and decision making. In order to apply students simply need to be passionate about issues that impact young people and be keen to work with others their age to bring about the changes they want to see in their local communities. We have had three of our own ASMS students participate this year and student applications for 2025 are now under way.

Here are some quotes from their experiences:

“The SA SRC is a really great community. As a member this year I had the opportunity to speak to like-minded people and campaign for a great cause. I was able to speak to several policymakers and talk to about issues that are important to me and having direct contact with the Commissioner for Young People, with who I could raise my concerns about any new policies that affect young people. My favourite experiences of the year were getting to speak to the commission and an MP at parliament house about lowering the voting age, as well as having my quotes in the Commissioners official release for the new social media policy. If you are a year 10 or 11 interested in politics or social justice, I would highly recommend this opportunity!” Lauren

“I loved being a part of big decision making, hearing other people’s inputs and discussing challenges, I’ve even applied for SA SRC for next year to continue this journey” Ark

“I really liked the workshops provided around ‘Keeping your cool’, presenting yourself in the media, interacting with MP’s and politicians, professionalism and it was a valuable experience for me.” Dee

Final sign off on Enrichment & Agency programs for 2024

We have had a very busy year enrichment wise; I would love to take this opportunity to thank all of the teaching and support staff who have made the excursions and incursions possible. I would also like to thank all parents and caregivers who have helped support their children in participating in these extracurricular activities to enrich their education in STEM fields. We are excited to see what new things 2025 brings to the enrichment program.

Nominations for 2025 Changemakers has begun, we have had an overwhelming number of students and teachers making recommendations on behalf of our current Year 10s, the selection process is well underway. The 2025 Changemakers will be chosen by the end of the school year and told before they go on their summer break.

Passion Project is also winding down for the year, students are working on their final touches for their projects and are forward planning what they want to achieve in Passion Project next year.
