Flinders Health and Medical Research Building Tour

On Thursday 17 August a group of our ASMS students had the opportunity to take a tour of the new Flinders Health and Medical Research Building from Cameron Holoubek from Hansen Yuncken. Our students were taken on a tour through all 10 floors of the building, where they were introduced to the different wet and dry labs, the winter labs that connect indoor of the hospital to the outdoor space, the indigenous medicinal garden and the landscaping and sustainability aspects that include strategic lighting, air quality regulation, and renewable energy. This was an excellent chance for our students to get an inside look into construction, architecture, and engineering so thank you to Cameron for the tour.

Lot Fourteen Tour

As part of Careers Awareness month, a group of our students were offered the chance to tour Lot Fourteen in the city. This tour gave our students the opportunity to get some into insight into some of the research institutions, startups, and companies located in this precinct as well as the career opportunities in these industries.

Pecan+CTF Capture the Flag Cyber Security Competition

On August 5 and 6 eight of our ASMS students participated in a capture the flag Cybersecurity competition called Pecan+CTF. The first day involved some training to prepare for the second day which was the competition. We had 2 teams of four students that ranged from Year 10 to Year 12 that was comprised of all genders. One team won a prize for solving a special challenge, so congratulations to our students who were involved in this opportunity.

Conversation with an Astronaut in Training

As part of National Science Week 2023 a group of our students were able participate in a virtual conversation with the Australian Space Agency’s Katherine Bennell-Pegg. The Australian Space Discovery Centre connected with Katherine online from Germany where she is currently training with the European Space Agency. Our ASMS group got to hear about a day in the life of an astronaut-in-training, Katherine’s career journey and her advice, as well as the opportunity to ask her questions. Thank you to the Australian Space Discovery Centre for this opportunity for our students.
