Enrichment News

Enrichment at the ASMS has gone off with a bang this year! Students are signing up for all things Science, Digital Technology, Mathematics, Engineering and more. Thank you to students for checking your emails regularly and being optimistic to try new things and test out your skills.

South Australian Student Representative Council

The SA SRC aims to include a diverse range of student voices across the state. Students who take on this leadership role are empowered to have a voice in policy and decision making as well as practice public speaking skills and exercise their agency. We are proud to announce that we have 4 ASMS students who have been selected to participate in the SA SRC for 2025. Ark V, Lauren T, Beth R, and Isabella A participated in the first webinar on Thursday 6 March and were introduced to the program as well as brainstorming ideas for their campaigns. Best wishes to you all, can’t wait to hear all about your progress in the upcoming weeks.

Teen Parliament

On Wednesday 14 February (Week 3), Hana a new Year 11 student to the Australian Science and Mathematics School was selected along with 30 peers across the state to participate in The Advertiser’s Teen Parliament opportunity. Hana spoke very strongly about inclusion, multiculturalism, preserving native language and customs when migrating to Australia. Well done Hana.

Passion Project

Passion Project is well underway with each student working on their individual projects. Students are capturing evidence of their learning and progress to showcase in the whole school Passion Project Showcase in Week 11 this term. The Ideation Studio has been a busy beehive with a range of student projects from clay modelling, jewellery making, recycled goods art projects, as well as students teaching each other languages, robotics competitions and more.

Changemakers

The new Changemakers for 2025 are working on some grand plans for this year. Keep an eye out on the next issue of info@ASMS for more details.

International Women’s Day

On Friday, 7 March, we had three lovely students, Edie, Vesna and Trinity join us at school very early on a Student Free Day to participate online in the 2025 Adelaide International Women’s Day Breakfast hosted by Senator Penny Wong and guest speaker Rachel Perkins. Thank you for your participation in this community event, we hope you gained a sense of unity and empowerment hearing from some important role models in this space.

Student Clubs

Students are displaying wonderful community attributes and have made their own chess club and vinyl review club for peers to join and meet weekly. We encourage more student clubs to be made so if students have ideas come and speak to Nikki and let’s make it happen!

Cybersecurity Escape Room

On Friday 28 February (Week 5) the wonderful Sam took a group of students to Woodville High School for a Cybersecurity Escape Room. This Department for Education initiative was a great way for students to get a taste of the cybersecurity and digital technology field, as well as put their critical thinking and problem-solving skills to the test and compete against other public schools. We were very proud to have brought students of both female and male genders as we were the only school who did on the day. Our students were the quickest to hack the server out of all the groups but unfortunately fell at the final hurdle. It was a wonderful natural display of a range of Learner Attributes including Resilience, Operation Action, Collaboration, and Communication. Congratulations to Year 10 and 11 students; Isabella A, Jackson K, Akash J, Noah J, James A, and Hayden B for your participation.
