Lot 14 Excursion

On Tuesday Week 10 last term, Terry took a group of students to Lot14 where students experienced the Australian Space Discovery Centre and learnt Australia’s expanding role in the global space industry as long as hearing about the latest advancements in space technology. Additionally, students attended presentation by experts from Amazon Web Services (AWS), gaining valuable insight into how cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and data analytics are transforming industries worldwide.

AWS also highlight potential career pathways within the technology sector. As part of the excursion, students also saw the Cyber Range at the Australian Cyber Collaboration Centre (A3C), where they observed real-world cybersecurity simulations.

This excursion was designed to inspire students by exposing them to cutting-edge developments in space exploration, technology, and cybersecurity, helping them to envision potential future careers in these fast-growing industries.

SA Space School

The SA Space Camp in the Term 3 holidays was really interesting as I found out a lot about the space industry as a whole. I learned that the industry is more expansive than I thought, since practically any scientific field can be applied in the space industry. More importantly I now have a better idea of where I can enter the industry in the future. Overall, it was incredibly informative, and it has definitely made me rethink what career pathway I’ll take in the future. James – Year 11

Teenage Boss – ABC

ASMS students, Jack and Bolek, were accepted into the ABC television show ‘Teenage Boss’. Hosted by beloved entertainer and presenter, Emma Watkins, Teenage Boss follows what happens when a teenager takes responsibility for the family’s finances for a month. Each student and their family participated in almost 35 hours of filming with approximately 20 minutes used for the show. Students reported that they learnt a lot about themselves and their confidence levels and about the behind the scenes of filmmaking. Their episodes can be viewed via the ABC website.

“I really loved to see all of the behind the scenes work that goes into filming which is awesome because I am very interested in this field, there is a lot of editing needed to get everything right. Being on Teenage Boss was a really great experience and I did surprise myself. I am thankful to my family for doing this experience for me and with me. It’s helped me to see things in the film industry that otherwise would’ve taken me some time to experience.” – Jack.

“My take home from filming and doing everything to do with the show is to put yourself out there. I personally have no experience and/or interest in the world of film and arts but by applying with nothing to lose and being myself, I managed to get onto the show. It was a lot of fun learning about film techniques and what happens in the world of TV show production.” – Bolek.

Flinders UN Youth America in Crisis

On Friday Week 1, Terry took a group of students interested in politics and debating to the UN Youth event called ‘America in Crisis’, held at Flinders University. Students utilised their Learner Attributes to collaborate with new peers, utilise information to build a case and debate various topics related to America. Feedback from the UN Youth facilitators on Friday about our ASMS students was very positive, they said we ‘should be very proud of the determination of your young people’, and we are very impressed by the Year 10-12 students who attended this day.
