It has certainly been Mad March in the Enrichment side of things at the ASMS. Here is a small snapshot of what students have experienced both in and outside of the building since our last edition.
KSF Maths Competition
Students from Year 10 – 12 participated in the Australian Maths Trust maths competition called Kangourou sans Frontières (KSF). KSF is now the largest maths competition in the world, with more than 6 million participants each year. It is a 30-question competition covering topics like basic arithmetic, fractions and ratios, algebra and pre-algebra, geometry, measurement, statistics and probability, and problem-solving. Well done to Hanna, James, Jackson, and Nicole on your participation.
ISS Sydney 2025
A number of students have put in their applications to attend 2 weeks of inspiring science at The International Science School, University of Sydney, hosted from 6–19 July 2025, where 110 science students from across Australia and around the world will gather at the University of Sydney for the Professor Harry Messel International Science School. Sending our very best wishes to these students.
International Day of Mathematics – Eddie Woo Webinar
On Friday 14 March, Eddie Woo, Australia’s most beloved mathematics educator, YouTube sensation, and newly appointed Professor of Practice at the University of Sydney, held an online webinar to celebrate ‘Pi Day’ on International Day of Mathematics. Students participated in the celebration of Creativity, Art and Mathematics through an interactive activity on epicycloids which facilitated a hearty conversation about the importance of mathematics in our everyday lives.

Creative Arts Expo at Botanic High School
On Saturday 15th March, two of our Year 10 students went to the Creative Arts Expo at Botanic High School.
“The Creative Arts Expo provided information on a range of careers and study pathways related to creative art. I was particularly interested in Game Art and gained knowledge on the steps to gaining a career in the field, such as the VET courses available, university degrees and the various companies located in Adelaide related to the industry, a few of whom were attending and presented at the event. Overall, it was extremely informative and has helped me to plan for pathways I want to take in the future.” – Chathuki
UN YOUTH NZ tour of Indigenous Australia
Two of our Year 10 students are very keen to explore more about the beautiful lands of Australia that will live on and dive into a deep cultural journey around Aus and New Zealand as a part of the UN Youth NZ Indigenous Aus tour. Best wishes to Shayla and Charlie on their applications.
Student Clubs
We have 2 student clubs running now which is creating a buzz during lunchtimes. Year 10’s and 11’s have been battling it out in individual chess games and have now made an ongoing chess tournament for the rest of term 1. Students are even challenging teachers to participate in the chess competition so they can show off their skills.

Passion Project
Passion Project students are preparing to showcase their learning and skill development from Term 1 in the Passion Project Showcase coming up on Thursday in Week 11. We look forward to seeing what students have learnt from the past few weeks. We will share more in the next edition of info@ASMS. Stay tuned!
Women in Engineering
On Friday March 21, teacher Bronte took a group of our students to attend the Women in Engineering event held at Tonsley, Flinders. Bronte said “It was a pleasure taking the girls to the Forum. Once they got going, it was hard to pull them away – they did a great job of asking questions in the open Forum then networking.”
Our students also go to speak one on one with experts like David Hobbs and now they are organising work experience with his team, which is very exciting. Thank you to Emily, Jess, Amy, Amber, Charlie, Shayla and Trinity for your attendance.
“The women in engineering panel was a great opportunity to ask some questions and make connections about engineering. Afterwards we got to have a chat with some biomedical engineering PhD students who gave us some advice about Year 12 and university.” – Amber
“The excursion was a great experience; we were able to gain valuable knowledge on what being an engineer entails and how we can get there after high school.” – Amy
“The panel was very informative with women from a range of different engineering backgrounds such as biomedical and civil engineering. After the panel, the lunch provided some very good networking opportunities for work experience and future mentoring possibilities.” – Jess
