Principal’s Message

Parent Evening: What does learning look like? Last night almost 30 parents and caregivers participated in a session led by Matt Verdon. The focus was on the various forms of learning and reporting at ASMS, emphasising how students’ reflection and evaluation is an integral part of the learning process. The session also covered how staff and parents can support students through co-regulation and the development of self-regulation skills. We will send links to the resources to all families in the coming weeks.

Curiosity in the Community Week- an overall success!:

The 2024 Curiosity in the Community (CiC) Week has concluded, leaving our Year 10 & 11 students with unforgettable experiences and meaningful learning opportunities across the entire state.

Our students journeyed to the far north, where they presented science, mathematics, and technology workshops at Andamooka Primary School, Woomera Area School, and Roxby Downs Area School. Beyond the classrooms, they explored the Arid Lands Botanic Gardens, mined for opals, and went stargazing at the Andamooka Observatory. Students delivered STEM outreach programs to local primary schools and supported conservation and land management efforts at Belair National Park, the Botanic Gardens, and Hallet Cove Conservation Park. They also engaged in learning about water management at Banrock Station Wetland, explored renewable energy and resources at Yankalilla, and aligned their placements with their career aspirations through various work experience opportunities. One group of students spent a day at Ramco Primary School and Waikerie Primary School in the Riverland, where they delivered hands-on mathematics and science practicals to Reception-Year 6 students. Activities included lemon batteries, balloon rockets, squishy circuits, balloon lungs, and glitterbug demonstrations. Meanwhile, on-site at ASMS, our students hosted senior citizens, taught them how to use VR, made connections, and shared plenty of laughs.

We are grateful to everyone who welcomed our groups; it was fantastic to see our students extend their STEM knowledge and develop their Learner Attributes through meaningful service learning.

End of Semester: Please note that the end of semester is fast approaching (end of Week 8). This can be a chance to reflect on learning and achievement but also to reset as we are mindful that for some students a fresh start will be a good thing.

Stay away if unwell please: We have had a few students and many staff with colds, flu and COVID in the last few weeks. We would like to give a friendly reminder to parents and caregivers to please keep your children home if they are sick. We would really appreciate your support to keep our students and staff safe and well this winter by ensuring sick kids stay home.

Reminder: Student Free Day 14 June.
