On Friday March 21, our ASMS representatives attended the SA SRC Summit. This summit and the SA SRC program is an initiative of the Commissioner for Children and Young People and is also supported by the Foundation for Young Australians (FYA). The SA SRC is a body of 150 students in Years 10, 11, and 12 from across the state. We are proud to announce that students Isabella, Beth, Ark and Lauren are proudly representing the Australian Science and Mathematics School.
In the SA SRC students work together to create genuine, student-led change within their own communities. This project authentically demonstrates the efficacy of student voice and agency. ASMS students are playing an important role by being actively involved in this program to demonstrate their capacity to help make change for the greater good of local communities. Students had a brilliant time at the Summit networking and building up a sense of their responsibilities for the year. Let’s hear from the students how the summit went:
“The summit was a really unique opportunity to be able to connect with other young representatives and work towards making change. I’m looking forward to the rest of the year and seeing the campaigns develop and grow.” – Ark
“It was insightful to hear the panel members’ various views on campaigning, hearing from people like Lucy Hood MP, the member from Adelaide, and others such as Vasil Samardzhiev, the Australian Representative to the United Nations. Additionally, we got to take part in a workshop called “exercising democracy”, led by Emily from Democracy Co, teaching us about the power of persuasion and how to collaborate among people with different opinions. But the highlight of the day was getting to meet and collaborate with the other SA SRC members.” – Lauren and Isabella
