The ASMS staff recently experienced an archaeology engagement day which provided our teachers with an opportunity to explore the connections between STEM disciplines and Indigenous cultural heritage through hands-on, research-informed archaeological activities courtesy of the Flinders University Archaeology department.
The day focused three key areas—understanding Australian stone tools and knapping, making sense of artefacts from an archaeological rock shelter, and examining innovation and technology in interpreting rock art from the Northern Territory.
Throughout the day, our participating staff were able to further explore how maths, science, and digital technologies are embedded in archaeological practice. This experience will hopefully inspire and inform our staff to incorporate what they have learned from Flinders Archaeology into the ASMS learning program.
