Mid-semester is Learning Conversation time. Our students are supported by their LSG teacher to reflect on their achievements and challenges in the Learning Conversations. In the range of conversations that I saw and overheard there was a gradual progression in self-awareness and student-agency across the year levels which was pleasing to see. Thank you to everyone who has showed understanding and flexibility in the late shift to the online mode.
The Capital Works refurbishment program of several of the studios and common areas go out to tender later this month with building works starting in August. We are working closely with the architects, DIT and the Department for Education to ensure that the staging causes minimal impact on the students’ learning. The funding for this work was allocated in 2017, so we are pleased that the building works are commencing soon. We will have about six months or so of some inconvenience, but the outcome will be worth the wait.
Last week we farewelled Sophie Braun as she started maternity leave in readiness for her child’s birth. We wish Sophie and Isiah all the best with their new family addition.
A quick reminder that the first day of next term is a Student Free Day for staff to focus on literacy, numeracy development in line with our Site Improvement Plan goals. Students return to site on May 3; many of our Year 11s will have their Flinders Uni Assessment Centre experience booked for that date and will need to be ready.
A reminder that we offer the ASMS Graduate Student Tutoring Program every Tuesday in LC4 after lunch. The tutors, overseen by Oksana Hollidge, provide tuition in a range of subjects to support current students in their learning and work on areas where additional assistance and support is required. Ideally students should come prepared with the tasks and assignments they require assistance with, and to have identified the specific areas in which they require help.
It’s been a busy term, I hope you enjoy reading about some of our activities in this edition of info@ASMS!
