Geospatial Industry Conference
This term a group of our students attended the Geospatial Industry Conference on 11 May held at the Adelaide Convention Centre.
This conference included a 2-hour Classroom Drone Essentials session where our students had the chance to learn about drone safety, manual flight, coded flight, real-world drone applications and learn about the career opportunities in the industry.
They also received a tour by an industry delegate where they got to see the latest drone tech, drone applications, and met with businesses in this space.
This unique opportunity gave our students the chance to engage in drone technologies and learn more about the career opportunities in the geospatial industry.
Rostrum Voice of Youth Competition
Congratulations to ASMS student Zac M, for winning the heat of the Rostrum Voice of Youth public speaking competition.
Contestants were asked to prepare an 8-minute prepared speech, and Zac chose the topic ‘Lost in translation, stories lost through time’ which had a focus on Australian veterans, and then a 3-minute short notice speech on the topic of ‘Invisible struggle’, where Zac spoke about mental health.
Unfortunately, Zac was not able to compete in the semi-finals due to sickness but look forward to seeing this student continue on this path in the future.
Explore Archaeology at Flinders
A group of our ASMS students also took part in Explore Archaeology at Flinders which was an event that allowed our students to tour the artefact collections and laboratories of the university, take part in the techniques used by archaeologists out in the field, and speak with internationally recognised teaching and research staff, current students and recent graduates to learn about the industry’s career opportunities.
Space Forum
Also this term, a group of our students had the opportunity to take part in the 15th Space Forum, which was supported by the Australian Space Agency, the South Australian Space Industry Centre and SmartSat CRC.
This Forum provided the perfect opportunity for our students to stimulate ideas, share information about emerging technologies and network with influential space sector leaders and the broader community.
