The Energy Equation

In The Energy Equation (TEE) students are finishing up with the module Burn the World. This last aspect of learning focuses on combustion chemistry, understanding the differences between complete and incomplete combustion of fuels and applying stoichiometric calculations to determine the yield of the products such as carbon dioxide, and the energy release of these fuels. Students are showcasing their investigations as scientific posters to determine which is the best hydrocarbon fuel.

In Week 7, students will move into Module 2 – Set Fire to the Sky where we look at the power of the atom to produce nuclear energy and the consequences of doing so. Using a historical lens, we evaluate if the atom can be considered a friend or foe, exploring the benefits and drawbacks of nuclear power.
