Primary Maths Extension Group Session 3

On Thursday 3 September, we hosted the 2024 PMEG cohort at the ASMS to present their posters to our ASMS students and special guests at our 20th International Science Fair. 124 students from 27 different schools participated in the PMEG program – our biggest cohort yet!

We were so impressed by the inquiry skills these primary school students demonstrated throughout the course of the program, and with the posters they produced for the theme “Decoding the World With Mathematics”. They investigated everything from the best angle to kick a footy, the best place to keep bananas, how many wombat poos it would take to build the great pyramid of Giza, how complex numbers produce a Mandelbrot Set and how their running speed compares to various world record holders.

Thank you to our staff and participants for making this year’s Primary Maths Extension Group an engaging experience for all involved. An extra special thanks to the student mentors, who went above and beyond to run sessions for the primary school students, support development of their inquiry posters, and be their critical audience for poster presentations. We couldn’t have done it without you.
